Paolo Cascio discovered his dream at the age of 16 after stumbling upon a movie being filmed at Alcatraz during a family vacation. The native Chicagoan took his enthusiasm and learned the fundamentals of photography via a photo book and cassette tape which his father bought him, along with his first 35mm camera. During his high school years he spent all of his free time shooting rolls of black and white film at sporting events and printing pictures in a darkroom he built in his parents house.
After high school Paolo attended William Rainey Harper Community College in Palatine, IL where he shot assignments for the college newspaper “The Harbinger”, and it was there that he discovered his passion for musicians after covering concerts for Buddy Rich and Muddy Waters, the latter earning him a photo-journalism award given by the state of Illinois.
Cascio later attended Columbia College Chicago where he spent 2 years studying film and cinematography with fellow classmates Janus Kaminski (Shindler’s List, Saving Private Ryan) and Mauro Fiore (Training Day, Avatar) He landed his first professional job at age 20, working on the film Lucas, and earned his first screen credit on the movie Planes, Trains, and Automobiles directed by legendary director John Hughes.
Over the past 3 decades, Paolo has earned over 100 credits on feature films, television shows, music videos, and documentaries. His unique style and creative talent have earned him 2 Best Cinematography nominations for his work on “A Good Day” and “Unbound”, he has traveled internationally teaching seminars and workshops, and in 2009 he received an Emerging Cinematographer Award from the International Cinematographers Guild for a short film directed by Oscar nominated editor Dean Goodhill (The Fugitive).
In 2010 Paolo worked on a promotional film for the JROTC which was nominated for a Midwest Emmy, and was recently recognized last year by Harper College with a 2016 Distinguished Alumni Award. Paolo has had a vast and unique career for over 3 decades and is a true artist at heart. He is very active with philanthropic projects and regularly dedicates time towards Veterans and local and national charities. Whether he is shooting a commercial, a movie, or photographing a sporting event, Paolo is completely dedicated to his craft. His passion, vision, and artistry shine through in all that he does.
